It's tough to get over the eagle. Jeez, I felt like I was in heaven ... fish swimming around, birds, notably eagles and herons visible in the sky, and little red foxes trouncing around my beach. Then the crown jewel of the month, the canoe race. Oh, I know what you are thinking - canoes, big metal, heavy, ugly things; but you would be oh, so wrong. I look forward to this race every year. And I don't even canoe.
AuSable Canoe Race. 100+ teams paddle like mad through the night from Grayling to AuSable. Someone, somewhere, at some time, thought this was a good idea. I think it's a great idea if you have a camera. Paddling through the rain, through the night, is NOTon my bucket list.
The board with updates.
Finish line
The river curve, when they come around the bend.
We made some new friends - Darlene and Debbie visiting from Toledo. They were so neat - wish we had more time with them.
Teams have t-shirts
The winners down the home stretch. You should have heard the crowd go wild.
I have to share how much fun it is to see a small town come alive, all around a canoe race. Next year, same time, same place just east of the equator.
