Slacker Week

Oh my goodness, I don't know where the time goes.

Well, I sort of do.  I have been reading. reading, and reading.

I haven't even picked up my camera.  Sigh.

It is February 17, there is no snow, and there is no snow on the horizon.   The weekend will be busy.  Thoughts about redoing our basement.  Perhaps.

This is my favorite right now.  Marc and Angel Hack Life.   I especially love their link to Thought Questions.

The question for the day is this:  Where do you find strength?

The cow comes home

In packages of course.  If you are a vegetarian, or are faint of heart, skip this post.  Really.  So fair warning, friends.

We bought a side of beef.  Pure cow raised, fed, and butchered locally on a friend's farm. I am not a big fan of blood and guts but I am a huge fan of buying local, and Mike's farm counts.  No additives.  No fillers.  Just a cow living a life of grass, feed, and hay, hanging on the farm until, well, it's his time.

There is no happy euphemism for this event.  Sorry.  And because it's in my DNA, I took pictures.  Last chance to hit the "next blog" feature at the top of the page because I took pictures of everything.

The friends left behind.  Obviously they are keeping their distance.  Wouldn't you?

The meat locker. That's the other half of what we brought home.

The chute.  Or something.  I don't know what it's called.  But it puts meat in the packages.

That looks like this.

It was fun to catch up with good friends.

Oh and they have chickens!   They are rather smelly.

So Mike and Rhonda Fisher, thank you!  Next time, we will stay for a beer.  Cheers.

Randomness around Michigan

Detroit's unemployment is hovering around 30%. People on the ground in the city think it's more like 50%. That freaks me out. How can this state survive with our largest metropolitan community not working?

We recently took a wonderful trip up to Oscoda, maneuvering around construction barrels and decided this: there are signs that say Construction Zone Ends. But they really don't end. They start up again every several miles. So they should either say Construction Zone Ends FOR NOW or they shouldn't put anything up.

If you have a crackberry of any kind, look at Google Latitude. It is so cool, in a weird, stalker sort of way but it also shows traffic congestion. All for a paltry zero dollar, zero cents. Very cool.

I don't know how anyone couldn't love living here. I just wish our state was more welcoming to businesses, less tax, more incentive. It will be a long recovery for Michigan.

What's going on?

Well, it's hump day and for the short week, we are two days from the weekend!  The kitchen is unreal.  Jim has been busy with floor tile and it looks amazing.  I would haul out the camera and take pictures but Paul's work is just as good so take a peak here.  Even Jim thinks that the whole thing will look amazing.  And that is a lot coming from Jim. ;)   There is a better than good possibility that the appliances will be installed by next week.   I can hardly stand thinking about having a working stove, regular size refrigerator and -WOO HOO- a beverage fridge.   The replacement midget fridge is doing duty in the basement, where it will stay helping out with overflow during holidays and parties. I will not have to go downstairs to get food or drink.  No more rustic living!

And mark your calendar for our Kitchen Warming party.  Saturday Night, November 1.  Food and drink (I know, shocking for a kitchen warming party) with lots of friends and conversation.  Invitations to follow.  Twitter for you cool cats, paper for those who don't Tweet.

Mr. Handsome is spending his days at Whiskers.  He absolutely loves his friends there and the staff seem to have found a special place in their hearts for him.   The beauty is that he doesn't seem to miss us when he is there and loves coming home at night.  We seem to be done with any separation anxiety and that is a very good thing.

I have mentioned before that I have started subscribing to a (GASP) magazine, Real Simple.  If you don't get this, borrow one and I promise you that it is worth ever single penny that it costs to subscribe.  Plus you get really cool email - recipes and daily thoughts.  My favorite?  A truly Zen thought, the obstacle is the path.

Ponder that one friends.  And have a good one.
