It's cold and we have cuddled up and hunkered down. We have been watching the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show for the last two nights. The show has been terrific but even better have been the commercials from Pedigree. These are NOT commercials for the faint of heart. When I see these commercials and I think about the dogs sitting in shelters because they aren't convenient, got too big or were no longer wanted, I choke up. Pedigree is raising money for shelters and breed rescue. Take a look at their efforts here. Donate if you can. Adopt if you want a companion. Please.
I look at our Handsome Boy and am so glad that we brought him home. We watch him look out the window, staring at the trees; even now, a few leaves skip across the snow, the squirrels play the high-wire act on phone and power lines and his furry girlfriend who will bark at him through the window...he has a real life now. We have done a handful of good things in our lives- for ourselves and others. But giving a home to a dog that was essentially a throw-away is tops on my list. He won't win any shows, awards or ribbons but we don't mind. We have won far more than a trophy or a title.
