My 2012 in review

It was a good one.  No wait, it was a great one.  Any time I wake up and it's another day, we are living and breathing, it's simply wonderful.   Some of my favorite highlights - all in pictures- from the past year.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Cheers to the past, the present, and the future.  Welcome 2013!

East of the Equator

2012 is in the books. Sigh. I miss it already.

We had a quick turnaround to spend a little down time, take a few pictures, and get the place ready for the winter.  I don't like these trips.

But I did get some great pictures.  Ice is starting to form along the Lake Huron shoreline.

Merry Christmas

Christmas Eve

We have it all going this Christmas - wonderful lights, casual decorations, a killer Charlie Brown tree, and a roaring fire.

One piece missing are gifts.  Years ago, we quit buying each other gifts.  What we need, we buy.  We don't need to wait for a holiday.

Okay, we do get each other Amazon gift cards.

But this year, a real gift came at an odd time.  Our cow was ready. Perfect timing.  We drove out to Mike's house to pick up the beef.  While the guys were doing business and packing up, I went to see the cows still standing.

They were a little skittish.  Who can blame them?

After I walked around for a bit, they ventured a little closer.

We have our freezers full of some of the best beef on the planet. We love buying locally from a good friend and great farmer. All the different cuts of beef make us experiment in ways that we never imagined. It's the perfect gift this Christmas Eve.

Merry Christmas Eve.

Pardon me

I mostly remember to take my camera to the beach.

I was trying to take this picture - a sparkling lake, a lovely breeze, someone out for a sail.

But the first time I snapped the picture, I got this:

The chocolate lab down the beach was chasing his tennis ball.  Just another great day on the beach.

Cheers!

Epic

It's the only word to describe yesterday's beach day.  It was incredible.   Light ENE breezes to keep the bugs away, bright blue skies, and abundant sunshine.  I sound like the Weather Channel.

We sat on the beach most of the day.   It's always fun to see what comes our way.

Some kind of ultra light plane flew overhead.  It was loud and he was low.  Low enough to wave.

We played in the water most of the afternoon.  It was so warm ... and with our summer days coming to end, we were hard pressed to give it up.

We had some fun with friends. Nothing better than a good tear up and down the beach.

We ended our day with a lovely dinner and watched the moon rise one more time over our great Lake Huron. Nothing better than a long weekend EOTE with dear friends and wonderful neighbors.  Labor Day is really the end of the summer pace up north.  We are already looking forward to next summer.

Cheers!

Weekend wrap

The chaos of the week prevents much writing so I am finding myself catching up on the weekends.  We headed north again on Friday, arriving just in time to have a nice dinner and watch the day end.

It was also a tough week.  Last week, our friend Sandi had to say goodbye to her beautiful dog, Bella.  She had several seizures over the weekend and wasn't getting better.  While the pain of losing Bella is almost unspeakable, we are left with wonderful memories of such a sweet dog.

We continue to enjoy the company of the eagle.  He came to visit again on Saturday.

This week promises to be just as busy ... yet our reprieve will be here next week.  Cheers from EOTE.
