Breakfast time

My g/f Julia, a/k/a Jewels is one hot photographer. One gorgeous day, just after Christmas, she took me to her photo exhibit.  Yes, she had her own exhibit.  It was A. Mazing.

First, we started with breakfast at a local jaunt, Russ'.

We leave.  And then head over to Pine Rest to see her incredible pictures.  You can see her stuff here.  I don't do New Year's resolutions but I did this year.  I am resolving to spend more time on photoshoots with Julia.  I could be so lucky.

Friday Happy Dance

Yesterday, I had some fun in the Ecosystem Preserve.   And while celebrating the end of a marvelous week, let me share some of the fall beauty.

Whirlwind

We had a weekend getaway planned. Samson the dog spent one lucky weekend with his favorite peeps at Whiskers Pet Resort.  They spoil the fur off him; I am always amazed that he even wants to come home.  We spent the weekend at the cottage.  We still have some ongoing work - some plumbing issues that were fixed and now a wasp nest that needs removal.  It's never ending.
We put up our new sign from our friend, Abi.
Paradise
In between work, we had a chance to relax a little.   We sat on the beach and watched the water.
Lake Huron

We had a beer with our good friends at the V.   The Paul threw some steaks on the barbie and we had a late dinner.  We enjoyed our new favorite, Educated Guess, a 2007 Cabernet.

We did...
Wine
..the whole weekend.   Thanks Jennifer.

Cheers to newlyweds Edward and Elisha on their wedding and to Henry and Jan (groom's parents)! Congratulations.

Long weekend

It's supposed to be a beautiful weekend.  Of course, tho, the minute yesterday  that I put out on @Twitter - it's my Friday and the weekend is nothing but sunshine and blue skies, the clouds gathered ominously followed by torrential downpours and flash flood warnings for about 30 minutes.   Really.  I am the vortex of doom for weather predictions.
So no more predictions about the weather.  But solid predictions for fun, pictures, stories, toasts, cool dips, friends, cookouts, Killians on tap and undoubtably a pull tab or two.   Maybe even Winky.
Your house shall not be your anchor, Kahlil Gibran wrote, but a mast.  We have good sails, a great skipper and fair winds.  Cheers.

Mr. Handsome

It's been a while since I posted on His Handsomeness. I thought it was about time to share the look of Love. I took these pictures with my fixed 50 mm lens and LOVE it. Don't know why I don't use that lens more often!

We had some time to play in the backyard before Paul came home from work. We sniffed the grass and bushes, chased the frisbees and rolled in the grass. Well one of us did and the other took the pictures. Enjoy.

Things I desire, things that inspire

Out and about this week, I overheard three virtually identical statements by completely different people.

I still am waiting to hear if I have a job. Woman talking to the cashier.
There is nothing for me here. I will probably have to move out of state. Woman talking to store manager.
The ads in the paper get thinner and thinner. Oh well, what can I do? Woman talking to pharmacist.

I deeply desire for this state to rebound, regroup and rebuild. It's a fabulous state with terrific natural beauty, gorgeous beaches and water and miles of open roads winding through big and small towns. We have mountainous obstacles - fading industries tied to auto manufacturers, a wretched business tax and an educational system that is struggling. But we cannot rebound by continuously taxing those who work and invest. Increased taxation is not a long term solution to this economic problem and I fear that our leadership - both state and federal - believes that it is. I have talked to several business owners who shudder at the increasing taxes and employee benefit requirements, strong incentives to stop businesses from growing and investing. We are heading in the wrong direction. Sometimes, it can simply feel overwhelming.

But I am also inspired.

Paul and I took a Sunday afternoon to walk Meijer Gardens. It's a beautiful gift to the community and for a paltry membership amount, we can wander inside and out, snapping beautiful pictures, watching children run and play and folks just strolling around. It's fabulous.

I am inspired by people both at work and in the community who look for ways to generously give - time, money, resources. People who aren't bothered by the evening news, the naysayers, the prognosticators. People who go out and make things happen.

And I am inspired by my beloved Red Wings. This team has fought back constantly - throughout the playoffs. They were down and rebounded, again and again. If they can do it, I know we can.

This week starts the final week before the Wedding of the Century. I am mostly inspired by a family of great love and wonder and how much fun, work and effort it takes to pull a wedding off. I simply can't wait to be there - to hang out, to take pictures, to see great people and mostly to see the bride and groom. It will be nothing short of wonderous!

So share with me all, what's your inspiration?

Beauty

Not very often do I get to say that I spent the weekend taking pictures.  But last weekend was the weekend.  A bridal shower on Saturday and a wonderful friend and her 14 year old poodle on Sunday.  Both were absolutely stunning days with sun and big clouds and a beautiful breeze. Different events but both full of heartfelt love.  A bride-to-be with good friends, fabulous food and darn cool presents and an equally neat friend with her four-legged family member.

I love these pictures.  I hope you do too.   So the week looks busy but wonderful.  Enjoy.
