la lune

This is the full moon in July.  Full Buck Moon, Full Harvest Moon, and/or Full Thunder Moon.

Take your pick.  It's all beautiful.

Full Buck Moon or Full Thunder Moon

Either is acceptable according to the Farmers' Almanac.  What is it about the moon that is so intriguing?  I could just stare at it for hours.

To get this shot, I had a couple of things. A tripod. A REALLY long lens, the longest I could afford. A remote. Timing. A perfect evening. No clouds. Cool temps. No bugs. Round these parts in July, that's a gift. f/11 to f/16 1/125 and 100 ISO. I played with a variety of combos during the rise but those settings got my favorite results.
Cheers to the moon, just east of the equator.

Waiting for Godot

That's what it feels like, waiting for spring ... and waiting for summer.  I have never been so anxious in my life to get on with it, so to speak.  So I look in the rear view mirror and pull inspiration to help me wait.

Thunder Moon

There are a few things in life that I find simply beautiful. A very tired, sleeping dog. A gorgeous sunrise. A wicked rain storm. When we moved in to East of the Equator, we now have the opportunity to watch the full moon rise over the lake, thus adding another gift of nature to my list of true beauty.

Perfect weather is giving us the perfect vacation.

Another glorious weekend

We had another delightful weekend on the Sunrise Coast.  We headed up Friday night and coasted in early, time enough to meet a friend for dinner and watch the moon rise over the water.  I had not heard of the Strawberry Moon until our friend Jan DeVries mentioned it on FB.  And to watch it rise over the water was nothing less than  spectacular.
(disclaimer- pictures taken without remote, through a window and after a little wine).

The orange color started to fade ... and moon slipped in and out of the clouds.  We could barely take our eyes off it.

We spent time with our good friends at the V, headed to downtown Oscoda for Art on the Beach, walked, swam, played with Samson on the beach and watched the waves roll ashore.  Just heaven.  Can't wait to do it again.

Over the moon

The sellers accepted our offer. We are truly over the moon. And to celebrate, we had a gorgeous one last night. My friend, Jewels, called me on the way to her book club to make sure that I was taking pictures of it.

Taking pictures of the moon is really tough - you get quite a bit of lens flare that requires editing. I don't like to do much editing so I was pretty tickled with the outcome.

If you look closely, you can see the branches of the trees and the ice crystals around the moon. Jewels was right - the December moon is the most beautiful!
Enjoy the day.
