Roses

“It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important.”
― Antoine de Saint-ExupĂ©ry, The Little Prince

I have a wild rose bush in my backyard.  If you know me, you know that no plant lives at my hand.  Doesn't matter what I do or how I do it ... they all die.

Except this bush.  For whatever reason, this baby thrives. Perhaps it is the George Costanza contrarian approach.

Whatever it is, I will keep doing what I am not doing.

April flowers

I know that it has been a peculiarly warm winter.  Spring came in February.  Our tulips have bloomed and died. But come April, we have a few new flowers trying to emerge.  Whew.  I thought we were destined for a colorless spring.

There are some hangers-on from last fall.

The big blue sky made everything that much more beautiful.  Closing in on the weekend.

Friday Happy Dance

It has been a good, long week. It started to snow here in Michigan. I wasn't prepared - no ice scrapper, no boots, no gloves, no coat. I don't know what I was thinking when I went to work yesterday.

I was over the Prince Conference Center for a midday celebration and couldn't help but grab a few images of the gorgeous flowers. It really helped take my mind off the snow.  At least for a minute.

It's Friday.  It's happy.  It's the weekend!  Lots to do and places to be and fun to be had.  Cheers!

Up close and personal

Julia was over the other night.  We had so much fun with dinner and drinks and 80s trivial pursuit that we never even took out our cameras.

It's a tragedy, really.  We have a photo date on the books.  Soon.

We were talking about not having a true macro lens.  Even without and using my extension tubes, I forgot how good some of my closeups looked.

Looking forward to time in the field with Jewels.

The beach - so much more than sand

I couldn't have asked for nicer weather, more beautiful sunrises, or gorgeous crashing waves.  We have just had a glorious week, Mr. Handsome and I.  Tanning, resting, swimming, and of course, a few pictures here and there.

My neighbor Michael (the retired botanist) is a treasure trove of fabulous information.  Like the first day we moved in and he came over and showed Paul the poison ivy.  God love him;  we sure do.  He also showed us the weeds that attract the monarch butterflies.  I will never pull this weed.

It brings these.  All over the beach!

The purple weeds draw the birds.  I am sure that they have a technical name, and that Michael would know it;  for now, let's just call them the purple weeds.

Even the beach grass looks lovely given the stunning backdrop.

Had a wonderful weekend with an opportunity to shoot a few of the flowers gracing our house.

Midweek

I can't believe that it's Wednesday already. The weather is gorgeous and nary a cloud in the sky. Lots to do over the long weekend but until then it's time to enjoy American Idol and Detroit Red Wings.

And I have the Grass Doctor to thank for the trick of keeping flowers alive!

Last of the lilacs

These are for our friend Lisa. These pictures are the last of the lilacs, their beauty and fragrance have graced our yard and neighborhood for the last several weeks. They are beautiful. But they are leaving. So until next year, lilacs!
