Stealing time

My friend Mike is an amazing techie with crazy good writing skills.   He wrote this fabulous post on Stealing time.   And I am hijacking (with proper credit of course) and expanding his notion of stealing.
Our days are long, work is busy and I seek ways to refresh and rejuvenate.  One way I do that is by always having a camera in my bag.  Whether it's my big gun (as Paul calls it) or my little P5100, I am always ready to capture the little things along the way.
I mentioned in an earlier post that I took a break at the Calvin greenhouse.  I took some pictures of the green, pink and red that was flourishing gloriously while the outside Michigan January was in full scale gray.

I was waiting for a meeting to start and in the office was a beautiful tabletop rock waterfall display.  I grabbed my camera and snapped a few pictures.

Not great art, won't win any awards but a nice reprieve in a busy day.  Since Mike wrote that post, I frequently take a few minutes when I am sitting, waiting, in between events or people, and grab a few minutes for me.  May be pictures, may be a Tweet, may be a FB update.  And it may not be perfect but it works.  Try it.

Thanks Mike.

Master, what of Time?

Oscoda
And he answered:

You would measure time the measureless and the immeasurable.
You would adjust your conduct and even direct the course of your spirit according to hours and seasons.
Of time you would make a stream upon whose bank you would sit and watch its flowing.
Yet the timeless in you is aware of life's timelessness,
And knows that yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream.

The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran

Off we go to look for tomorrow's dream. We will return with stories and pictures. Promise!

The most wonderful time of the year

It's mid August. Football is on TV
Football = Fall
Fall = Leaves turning beautiful colors and falling from the sky
Leafless trees = cold, November days
Cold, November days = Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving = almost Christmas
Almost Christmas = Snow.

Yup. Snow. It's the most wonderful time of the year!

Time in a bottle

Things are moving along swimmingly in the kitchen, as the pictures below indicate. It is transforming before our eyes. We are excited - we want them to hurry it up already but at the same time are grateful for the patience and deliberateness of Jim's exceptional work. The cabinets are awesome. He may get the microwave/convection oven in before the long weekend. That would allow us to - GASP - cook some this in the kitchen. Woo hoo!

We do have a couple extra cool features - a step stool tucked under one of the kickboards; a cutting board that pulls out for extra stove cooking space; a couple of long, slender cabinets for cookie sheets and a drawer for our trashcan.

We also have a couple of secret, sealed spaces, perfect for a time capsule. So we are going to do it! We have some ideas of what to put in it - pictures - of us, Deb (who is as much a part of this as we are) and our friends at HWC, biographies, a timeline for the remodel and things to be determined! So I ask you friends, what else should be put in our time capsule?
