Walking the beach

Walking the beach around here is magical.  We see all kinds of cool things - frogs, eagles, beach glass, herons, people jumping from airplanes - the usual.

The best part of the walks usually involve meeting someone's dog.  Yesterday it was Petra.

Petra is another rescue (according to her owners) and she is a stunning beauty.  We made the mistake of throwing her ball and well, we were there quite a while. (As wonderful as she was, I would happily still be there)

Of course, our hearts skipped a beat when we saw her. She looks so much like our Allie. Ah, sweet memories. Cheers from EOTE!

A beautiful walk

At times, I wonder what grace is left in the world.  When I am asking that question or thinking that thought, lo and behold, I get a gift.  An answer.  An affirmation.

Mr. Handsome and I were on a wonderful, long walk this AM. It was partly sunny with a light breeze.   We went extra long.  While walking down our favorite street, Lake Drive, we stumbled upon the most delightful event.

Two ducks were crossing the street.   They were NOT using the crosswalk as they should have.  They were ambling.

Lake Drive is a busy street.  Even at 7:30 in the morning.

Samson and I stop about 1/2 a block from the ducks.  Samson is by all accounts, a high prey drive dog, and should we keep going, it won't end well.  The last thing I want is for the ducks to wander back into the street.

The car driving east comes to a full stop.  The ducks are in her lane.  The female duck saunters on to the easement.  The male duck stays in the street.  A few cars now stop behind the first car.  The driver in the first car is a young woman.

She honks her horn.  I bet she is late for work.

The male duck ever so slowly pops up on the easement and plops down next to his girlfriend.

The cars go by.  The ducks sit.

A woman with her two dogs running east crosses Lake Drive to avoid the ducks.  Samson is saying hello loudly to the two dogs.  The ducks look our way.

Two runners on the sidewalk run by but step into the street to avoid the ducks.

A walker is walking west and she too crosses the street to avoid the ducks.

I am so fascinated by the events that I forget that Samson and I are on a walk too.

We cross the street, much to Samson's dismay, and give these two beautiful ducks wide berth.

As we walk away, I look back and the ducks are just hanging out.

All this kindness and deference and beauty at 7:30 in the morning on a busy street in a sidewalk community.  It was a wonderful way to start our day.

Time passages

Al Stewart sings these wonderful words - "Well I'm not the kind to live in the past.. The years run too short and the days too fast.."  I don't know where the week went, much less the weekend.  Whew.

Samson and I were solo and had a wonderful time hanging outside,  taking long walks, and chasing squirrels.  You can guess who was doing what.

One of his favorite pastimes is chewing on gross, disgusting tennis balls.  I am certain that his current tennis ball is laden with horrific germs and disgusting waste but he is so happy.

We have numerous chores, errands, and objectives to accomplish this Sunday.  Doubt they will happen.  It's too beautiful outside to be working in the basement.

Cheers to your weekend!

Wood

The coast changes with the seasons.  It's stunning to watch how the coast ebbs and flows.Along with the shifting coastline comes debris.  Mostly wood, scattered along the route.

Enjoy a good walk along a great beach sometime.  Best medicine for a chaotic life.

A good walk

Paul and I had a chance to walk this evening, since he was taking a night off from his daily run. I haven't bringing my camera on our walks since the mornings are very, very dark and in the evening, we have Mr. Samson. He requires full attention but with Paul holding the reigns, I was able to snap pictures. We walked down to Floral and turned left at the beautiful yellow bush. It is a beautiful bush so I snapped a picture.

At the end of Floral, where it dead-ends into San Lu Rae, there is new construction! At least, there is a big ole hole being dug which we anticipate will be a new house. There are two new homes on either side of the big ole hole. We both remember the old homes that used to occupy the lots and the new ones, well, they just look new.

And, as promised, the cow. I swear, I have NO IDEA why they have a cow in their yard. Henry knew much about the cow but I decided to post pictures and let him provide us commentary. I still think that it is rather peculiar and someday I would like to sneak up and take a close up. And touch it. I have a Red Wings banner on my front door but I sure wouldn't think to have a cow....

Tuesday

Wow, has it been a busy couple of days! Work is going well for Paul and I am still working (like it's a choice). ;) The best news to report is Mr. Samson is LOVING his time with Catie. He is spoiled rotten and just continues to be so with her. Things are going well.

Paul got home from work and went for a run. Mr. Handsome and I went for a 40 minute walk and then he had time with furry girlfriend before it was dinner time. For the bipeds, it was my turn to cook so we settled on Buffalo Wild Wings.

One curious note, there is a house not to far from here, located on the prestigious street in EGR, who is sporting a bovine statute .... on the lawn. Front lawn. On the FRONT lawn. ??? It's the most peculiar statue. I will try and get pictures of it on my next walk. I am overcome, with curiosity (much like the HR Asst/Rodeo coach) to stop by the house and ask why they have a cow on their lawn.....

American Idol is down to the final five and I predict the finalists will be David and David. Tonight, the Red Wings head west to play game three in Colorado. I just can't stay up that late to watch hockey. At some point, one of us will wake up at some insane hour and be pulled to the computer to see how the Wings have done. It's crazy but the draw of the game is too much. :)

Let's Go, Red Wings!!
