The almost-Friday Happy Dance

Well, I have been back to work for two days plus tomorrow, which equals three whole days. I love the work and the college but one of my seriously very favorite things to do in the WHOLE WORLD is go to The January Series. The January Series is one of the most exciting and interesting parts of Calvin College, bringing in some of the best speakers from around the world. I have had the privilege of listening to speakers like Brian Greene, Fareed Zakaria, Charles Colson, Jean Kilbourne, Hanan Ashrawi, Charles Krauthammer, Kathleen DeBoer, Eugene Spafford, Paul Rusesabagina (Hotel Rwanda) and many, many others. How our colleagues in TJS convince people to come to Michigan IN JANUARY and speak is really something. They don't come for the weather, that's for sure. ;)

Today was no exception - the series started off with Michael Mandelbaum and his talk on "Democracy's Good Name." I try to get to as many as possible, including volunteering to be a participant at lunch with the speaker. Lunch with Dr. Mandelbaum was as interesting, if not more so, as he continued on speaking about democracy, liberty and issues around the world. What a gift to have such wonderful people come to the college and even more so to participate. If you find yourself with an hour at lunch, TREAT yourself and listen. It sounds like a shameless plug but I promise, you won't be disappointed.

Paul has 'boys night out' tonight so it's just me and Attila, holding down the fort. I have a glorious fire in the fireplace (ok, it's gas - just turn it on) and handsome boy is chewing on a bone. At some point this evening, I will venture out into the frigid temperatures of a Michigan January to pick up said boys. The rule in the house is no drink with the driving - so as designated driver ce soir, I am on the hook to pick them up.

It's almost the weekend!

Now see....doesn't Attila sound so much more proud and masculine than "Sammy" Attila is a fierce and mighty warrior...Sammy likes little roses on his tea cozy...

:^)

Samson is a SOUND name. I will concede that Attila is a good nickname but doesn't work full time. :/

Your fire looks toasty. Hopefully the boys were no trouble and you got to enjoy some peace and quiet. Sounds like a wonderful night.
